Enhanced Calling FAQS

• How can I get Enhanced Calling? +

  To be eligible for Enhanced Calling Services, you need to meet all of the following requirements:

  • Have a Primary Address & Phone number in the Enhanced Calling Service coverage area. To check Enhanced Calling coverage in your area, please visit the Coverage Map & enter your address, city or zip code.
  • Have an Enhanced Calling-capable phone with the latest device software/Carrier Settings.
  • Be physically within the Enhanced Calling service coverage area.

  
  

  To activate HD Voice on your iPhone:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap Cellular Settings.
  • Tap Cellular Data Options.
  • Tap Enable LTE.
  • Tap/Verify "Voice & Data" is checked.
  • You've successfully added HD Voice.

  
  

  To activate HD Voice on your Samsung device:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap Connections.
  • Tap Mobile Networks.
  • Tap/Verify the "Enhanced Calling" slider to On.
  • You've successfully added HD Voice.

  
  

  To activate HD Voice on your LG Smartphone device:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap Networks.
  • Tap Enhanced Calling.
  • Tap/Verify "HD Voice" slider to On.
  • You've successfully added HD Voice.

  
  

  To activate HD Voice on your Motorola device:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap Wireless and Networks; select More.
  • Tap Cellular Networks.
  • Tap/Verify Enhanced Calling is On.

  
  

  To activate HD Voice on your LG Wine LTE device:

  • Go to the Wireless & Networks menu screen.
  • Press the 7 key [Enhanced Calling].
  • Use the navigation key to highlight On or Off.
  • Press the OK key [Set] to connect to it.
  • You've successfully added HD Voice.

  
  

  Note: Once HD Voice is activated, you will be able to enjoy the other Enhanced Calling features, such as Simultaneous Voice & 4G LTE Data, and 6-Way Calling.

• What is Enhanced Calling? +

  Enhanced Calling is a suite of advanced cellular services enabled by Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology. VoLTE Technology optimizes the network by delivering voice calls & SMS traffic over the UScellular® 4G LTE data network instead of the traditional voice 2G/3G network, delivered through our Enhanced Calling-capable phones when connected to the Enhanced Calling network. Enhanced Calling Services include the following features:

  • HD Voice
  • Simultaneous voice and Data
  • 6-way conference calls
  • Automatic Robocall alerts to potential spam or potential fraud calls *Device Dependent

  Note: Enhanced Calling features are included in your existing voice plan at no additional charge. Enhanced Calling is not available everywhere.

• Who is eligible for Enhanced Calling? +

  To be eligible for any of the Enhanced Calling Features, you need to have an Enhanced Calling-capable phone, and be in the Enhanced Calling service coverage area.

  
  

  Note: If you have any features that are incompatible with the Enhanced Calling Service, they will no longer function upon availability of Enhanced Calling. Such incompatible services include Ring-Back Tones and Regional Abbreviated Dialing Codes.

• Will I be able to roam with Enhanced Calling? +

  Enhanced Calling is available while roaming in certain locations. Please review the Coverage Map for up to date availability.
• What is HD Voice? +

  HD Voice is High Definition voice calls with reduced background noise for clear & crisp audio connections. You can talk in a normal voice and be heard clearly even in noisy environments. Conversations will sound more natural, almost as if the person at the other end of the line is right there next to you.

  
  

  Note: You must to be talking to another Enhanced Calling customer to experience the end to end HD call quality.

• What is Simultaneous Voice & Data? +

  Simultaneous Voice and Data allows you to surf the web, continue a download, use an application, or use a feature like Mobile Hotspot all while on a phone call.
• What is 6-Way Calling? +

  A 6-way conference call can be set up exactly the same way you would set up a 3-way call. The only difference is that if your Enhanced Calling-enabled phone is connected to the UScellular Enhanced Calling network, you can set up a conference call with up to 5 other people, even if they don't have Enhanced Calling-capable phones.
• Which devices support Enhanced Calling? +

  View the current list of compatible phones. This list will grow over time.
• How much does HD Voice cost? +

  HD Voice is included in all existing plans at no additional charge. HD Voice calls are billed as standard voice calls according to your plan. No data charges apply. Calls that happen to be HD Voice calls are charged just like traditional phone calls and are billed against your monthly minute allowance according to your plan.
• Is Enhanced Calling available in my area? +

  See the Coverage Map for coverage availability. We are actively working to expand Enhanced Calling availability. Please check back regularly for coverage updates.
• Are any of my existing features incompatible with the Enhanced Calling Service? +

  • The Ring-Back Tone feature of the Tone Room Deluxe Service is not supported on the Enhanced Calling network.
  • Regional Abbreviated Dialing Codes are not supported.

  
  

  Note: Please contact Customer Support if you wish to continue to use the incompatible features above on the legacy 2G/3G network.

• Will the SIM card from my current device work with a new Enhanced Calling-capable phone? +

  You must use the new SIM Card provided with your new eligible device. However, you still need to have the Enhanced Calling setting activated on your line before you can use any of the Enhanced Calling features i.e. HD Voice, and Simultaneous Voice & 4G LTE data.
• How do I check if the latest software is installed on my phone to ensure that my Enhanced Calling features work? +

  To ensure that the latest software is installed on an iPhone:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Select General.
  • Select Software Update.
  • Confirm the screen displays "Software is up to date", otherwise select option to update.

  
  

  To ensure that the latest software is installed on an Android phone:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Select Systems Updates or Software Updates.
  • Tap Check for new system update.
  • If a new system update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to download and install it on your phone.

  
  

  Note: A software update might require a Wi-Fi connection and over 50% battery power.

• How do I know that my Phone is ready for the Enhanced Calling Feature? +

  To activate HD Voice on your iPhone:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Click on Cellular Settings.
  • Click on Cellular Data Options.
  • Click on Enable LTE.
  • Turn Enable LTE to "Voice & Data".
  • You've successfully added HD Voice.

  
  

  To verify that the Enhanced Calling Features are ready to use on an Android phone:

  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap Connections.
  • Tap Mobile Networks.
  • Verify that Enhanced Calling slider is set to "On".
• What changes should I expect after Enhanced Calling is activated on my line? +

  • For all devices, you'll be able to experience HD Voice, when speaking to other Enhanced Calling Enabled customers.
  • Activating Enhanced Calling will enable Simultaneous Voice and 4G LTE Data.
  • You will enable 6-way conference calls feature.
  • Other features, like Call Waiting, Call Forwarding, Caller ID and Voicemail (*86), will be the same as before.
• Will my calling areas be restricted after I enable Enhanced Calling? +

  You can make or receive HD Voice calls as long as you are within the Enhanced Calling Coverage area, and speaking with another Enhanced Calling user. If you are outside of the Enhanced Calling coverage area, you can still make or receive regular voice calls. For our Prepaid customers, please review the following Coverage Map.

  
  

  While traveling abroad, you can still make or receive regular voice calls on our roaming partners' CDMA or GSM networks, and use HD voice where available.

• Will my call hand off automatically when I move between the 3G network and the 4G LTE network with HD Voice? +

  No, calls won't switch between 3G and 4G LTE networks. If your call starts on the 3G network and you move to Enhanced Calling coverage area, your call will continue as a 3G/CDMA call. However, if your call starts on the Enhanced Calling network and you move to a 2G/3G area, your call will drop.
• When I'm using Enhanced Calling, what can I do to avoid dropped calls if I'm in a weak Enhanced Calling 4G LTE coverage area? +

  If you are in an area with a weak Enhanced Calling 4G LTE signal, you may want to consider temporarily turning off the Enhanced Calling setting on your phone to avoid dropped calls.

  
  

  Note: Remember to turn it back on when you're in a strong Enhanced Calling 4G LTE coverage area to take advantage of the Enhanced Calling features i.e. HD Voice and Simultaneous Voice & Data.

• How do I make an HD Voice call? +

  You can make an HD Voice call the same way you make a regular voice call (e.g. from your Contacts app, Phone app or Recent Calls), provided that both you and the person you're calling:

  • Are using Enhanced Calling-capable phones.
  • Have the Enhanced Calling feature enabled.
  • Are connected to the Enhanced Calling Network.
  • On most Android devices, you'll know that you're on an HD Voice call if an "HD" logo appears in the upper right corner of your in-call screen. If a wired headset or a Bluetooth® headset is connected to your phone, HD Voice calls may not be delivered to the headset with HD quality unless the headset is also compatible with HD Voice.
• How do I set up a 6-way call? +

  You can set up a 6-way conference call the same way you would set up a 3-way call. The only difference is that if your Enhanced Calling-enabled phone is connected to the Enhanced Calling Network, you can set up a conference call with up to 5 people, even if they don't have Enhanced Calling enabled on their phones.

  
  

  To set up a conference call with up to 6 phones:

  • Call the first phone number as usual.
  • While on that call, tap Add call to call the second phone number.
    • When the second call is established, the first call will be put on hold automatically. You can swap between the two calls.
  • Tap Merge to join the two calls and form a 3-way conference call.
  • You can call up to 3 more phones to form a 6-way conference call.
  • You've successfully set up a 6-way conference call.
• Why can't I make an HD Voice call? +

  If you're not able to make or receive an HD Voice call, it may be due to one of the following reasons:

  • Enhanced Calling isn't activated on the line that you're calling.
  • Enhanced Calling is set to "Off" on your phone or on the phone you're calling.
  • Either you or the person you're calling isn't using an Enhanced Calling-capable phone at the time of the call.
  • Either your phone or the phone you're calling isn't connected to the UScellular Enhanced Calling Coverage at the time of the call.
